The Basic Principles of Chaya (Shadow) Yoga
The class will introduce the Preliminary Stage of Shadow Yoga.
This stage consists of the Astha Chalanas (eight warm ups), Jiva Chalana (the Churning of
the Inner Self), strong leg work, squats, seats and the Warm down.
This dynamic and challenging practice builds up stamina through the demanding legwork,
develops coordination, releases muscular and mental tensions, induces correct breathing and
cultivates the correct attitude of the mind towards the practice.

Catherine Hadjilias – is one of the few acknowledged teachers of Shadow Yoga. Caterina was
born in Athens and moved to London in 1974, where she lives with her family.
She was introduced to hatha yoga in 1980. She has been teaching in London since 1994.
Caterina has been studying with Zhander Remete (founder of Shadow yoga) for the past 20
years and she learns regularly with him and his wife Emma Balnaves worldwide.
