About Ayurveda

Τhe Sanskrit term Ayurveda is a combination of two words: Ayu (life) and veda (knowledge). The literal translation is knowledge of life or «right living».

Ayurvedic knowledge dates back over 5000 years. It is India’s traditional medicine. Ayurveda embraces all aspects of well being from physical to mental and emotional. It is a natural therapy system that uses natural and raw ingredients as they are found in Mother Nature. Herbs, diet, nutrition and exercise combined with lifestyle recommendations quide you to achieve mental health and spiritual balance. The goal of Ayurveda is to cure and balance the body, mind, and soul using nutrition, a pre-defined lifestyle as well as therapies when necessary.

The system follows 3 biological rules; They are called the 3 doshas: Vata, Pita, Kafa. Everyone has a combination of these forces playing within. Combined they contain natures’ five elements:

Vata= wind and space

Pita= fire and water

Kafa= earth and water

Vata controls movement,

Pita the metabolism, and

Kafa the body’s constitution.

The 3 doshas exist in each of us and interact in different ways. Usually one of the 3 doshas dominates, but we often find an equal combination between 2 of them or even all 3. The combination of active doshas in you, are reflected through your actions and tastes.
