Yoga | Class Description

At Bhavana Yoga we offer a variety of Hatha Yoga classes such as Anusara Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Yin Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Meditation and more. Our yoga classes focus on good alignment and body mechanics to maximize the flow of energy in your body, and empower you to learn and experience greater stability, freedom, and ease in each pose.

Our classes always start with centering and a theme or beautiful idea/concept of life th and a gentle flow of Sun Salutations to warm up your body as well as your heart. Applied philosophy in every movement with some meditation and breath-work will give you perspective and space both in body and mind.

Most of all in our classes we aim to cultivate a feeling of connection with your self and everything around you. They are ideal and suitable for the absolute beginner, the experienced practitioner and everyone in between.

Class levels 

We want you to have a great experience in our classes. In any given, described level of Yoga class, the teachers always adapt the class to suit the levels of experience of the students, providing appropriate modifications and alternative practices where necessary. Choose your class according to your level of experience. This is the best way to evolve in the path.

 Foundations-1

This is a Basic level for those who have had no previous exposure to yoga, but are eager to learn and start experiencing the amazing benefits of a yoga practice. A slower paced yoga class incorporating a wide range of basic postures to build a strong foundation and gain confidence. Rediscover your body, how it works, and what it can do for you. The rhythm of the class gives you the time and support to understand the proper alignment of yoga postures and breathing technique. Props like belts, blocks are used here as well as partner work. With intelligent body mechanics taught from our experienced teachers you will be guided in this journey of creating a better mind body connection.

* We recommend attending these classes on a regular basis for approximately 3 months before attending Foundations-2 classes.

Foundations-2

In Foundation 2, slow-paced instructions and a great level of detail is given so you can become familiar with more advanced yoga poses and sequences. Here you will learn in more detail principles of alignment, biomechanics of the human body and philosophical aspects of Yoga practice. You will get to practice both classical and creatively-adapted sun salutations learning the concept of Vinyasa flow as well as introduction and preparation for inversions such as headstand, handstand and more advanced arm balances. Props like belts, blocks are used here as well as partner work to assist you and help you and have a better experience in your poses. A good understanding in Basic-1 foundation class is recommended as well as an understanding of proper alignment principles and body awareness. This is for students that looking to take their practice to the next level.

* These classes will prepare you greatly for the next levels of classes and we strongly suggest you always revisit to refine your practice.

 

Dynamic Flow 1

The sequence in  this Dynamic flow-1 class  builds strength and creates heat in the body. With a strong focus on breath and alignment this sequence becomes a moving meditation. Students are able to explore their personal journey through the physical practice as well as the inward journey toward awareness of the present moment and the stillness of the mind. In these classes will tend to focus on holding each pose in a sequence for slightly longer amount of time, challenging the mind to stay focused and present.

Good posture, flexibility, strength, cardiovascular health, relaxed awareness, and concentration are among others, the benefits of Dynamic Flow Yoga class.

* We recommend taking Foundation-1 and 2 classes for approximately 6 months before joining Dynamic flow-1 classes and always revisit Foundation-2 calsses to deepen your understanting.

Dynamic Flow 2

This level emphasizes on exploring the practice of more advanced poses, pose variations and sequences. You will meet the next level of arm balances, inversions and deeper backbends intertwined with intelligently creative sequences to challenge and advance your practice. You don’t have to already be masters of these advanced poses, but we encourage the desire to try them out! Recommended for “well simmered” practitioners with a good understanding and strong use of the Principles of Alignment.

At least 1 year of prior yoga experience and 6 months of Dynamic Flow-1  practice is recommended. Expect a lot of sweat while you dancing and playing in the sequence with sweet music tunes.

Note

*  If you’re unsure about which level is right for you, it’s best to go easier than you think. If the class seems too slow for you, you’ll know to try the more difficult class next time. If the class seems way over your head, modify or skip poses as you need to throughout the class, and next time, go for the easier level. You can always ask the front desk or a Teacher at Bhavana Yoga since these are the right people to guide you to the right class for you.

 

Gentle & Therapeutic

Slower paced class with focus on breathing, relaxation and gentle stretching. It’s also an appropriate class if you have an injury, feeling low-energy, or are pregnant (although you’ll have to make modifications to some poses). Props like belts, blocks, blankets and bolsters are used here as well as partner work to assist you and help you and have a better experience in your poses. Benefit from the healing aspects of this class by learning the mechanics and function of your physical body while exploring the structure of your anatomy to find ultimately more ease and connection body and mind.

Yin Yoga

In this practice of Yoga both elements of Yin and Yang co-exist. Although in the majority of Yoga classes offered in the West, the muscle strength (Yang Yoga) is mostly used.

In Yin Yoga we keep our muscles loose and we stay in each asana (position) for  a longer period of time . This helps the connective tissues of our body to “open / stretch “, as they require more time than the muscles to respond and achieve deep physical and mental relaxation.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is the most nurturing and relaxing type of yoga. All poses are done lying on the floor, supported by blankets, cushions and other props. Several scientific research publications point out the emotional and physical benefits of resting with awareness. Restorative Yoga focuses on relaxing the body in specific restful postures. It is an active relaxation process that provides the body with an opportunity to renew and heal. Restorative Yoga teaches the body to surrender; allowing soft tissue injuries to heal, muscles to release, minds to quieten, and to deepen physical openings. You learn when to be active and when to relax to increase performance, reduce stress and heal.

*Note that ‘deep rest’ is different than sleep.

Yoga Nidra

This class is the fastest and easiest way to reduce stress and anxiety, while restoring vitality and mental focus! Yoga Nidra reveals that your body, mind and the entire universe live in you, in your awareness. During practice you might feel an expansion beyond the physical body. It can give you the wisdom of the present moment. Be the witness of everything!

Meditation

Learn how to cultivate a mindful awareness.  A clam and tranquil meditation class will teach you how to meditate as the yogi’s have for thousands of years. Some light stretching prepares the body to sit comfortably and find your clam, steady center.

Prenatal Yoga

Yoga is an excellent option during pregnancy, it can help to soothe your aches and pains, help to reduce stress, teach you to relax and help prepare you for childbirth and motherhood. Prenatal yoga provides the opportunity for women to deepen their connection with their bodies and babies as well as with other pregnant women to share and learn from each other.

Classes are open to healthy pregnant women in their 2nd and 3rd trimesters. Please get approval from your doctor before attending this exercise class. No previous yoga experience needed.
